76% of Mexicans are Internet users – Luces del Siglo

MEXICO CITY.- Last year, 75.6 percent of Mexicans used the Internet, i.e. 88.6 million people aged six years or older.

If the 2021 data is compared with 2020, the number of users in Mexico increased by 4.1 percentage points because there were 83 million users.

And compared to 2019, the growth was 5.7 percentage points, when there were 79.5 million people, according to the 2021 National Survey on the Availability and Use of Information Technology in Households (ENDUTIH) conducted by inegi and IFT.

Before the pandemic, 69.6 percent of the population were Internet users.

“In South Korea, the UK, Sweden, Spain, the US and Japan, nine out of 10 people are internet users.

“In Mexico, the proportion is seven in 10, a figure higher than those registered in Colombia and South Africa,” the document shows.

The states with the largest populations of Internet users are: Mexico City, Baja California and Sonora, and the states with the least registered users are Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Guerrero.

On the other hand, the survey shows that last year, 89.2 percent of users connected to the Internet every day and everyone spent an average of 4.8 hours a day on the web.

Another important fact is that the percentage of the population using mobile phones increased by 3.2 percentage points last year, from 75.1 percent in 2020 to 78.3 in 2021.
