A 91.8% foreign tourists who visited Spain last April came from europe, from which 4.7 million people arrived, nearly three times as much as the previous year. Spain received a total of 5.11 million foreign tourists in April, 191.2% more than in the same month of 2021, which generated 43.3 million nights. After Europe came America, with 263,964 tourists sent to Spain in April (5.2% of the total); Asia, with 85,031 (1.7%); Africa, with 66,186 (1.3%), and Oceania, with 2,861 (0.1%).

Inside it european level, Europe’s main publishing countries are great Britainwith over a million tourists (andl 19.6% of the total). They follow France and Germany (with 15.3% and 13.6%, respectively). These three countries accounted for nearly half of the tourists received in April (2.5 million people), according to mobile phone data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

These are data from an experimental publication prepared by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), released this Monday, which referenced information about foreign tourists traveling to Spain and residents going abroad. from the position of their cell phone. INE receives data from the three major Spanish operators, of which only provide aggregate connection information travelers to the national network, without any kind of individual identification. This survey complements the cross-border tourist influx survey, Frontur, also from INE. The sample does not allow comparison of evolution during April 2019, before the pandemic, as these are new statistics, offering data from July of that year.

Thus, it is also known that the European continent which became the main sending country of tourists to Spain in April was United States, Morocco and Colombia (with 2.8%, 0.9% and 0.6% of the total, respectively). the city government that receive more non-resident tourists as the main goal is Barcelona. They came mainly from England and France. They stand behind Madrid (with the majority of tourists coming from France and the United States) and palm (where they access mainly from Germany and the UK).

INE indicates that traveler measurements in this statistic are subject to operational limitations. Thus, it must be taken into account that statistics identify non-resident travelers through contracted mobile device positions with foreign operators which is connected to the network of Spanish operators. However, it’s possible same people traveling with two or more terminals and will be counted twice or more, respectively, or who run without any mobile terminal or make it disconnected from the network of the national operator, in this case, will not be detected and, therefore, will not be counted in these statistics .
