Dogs are a trend in Spain and around the world. Currently, in Spanish homes there are more than twice as many dogs (9.3 million) than children (4.3 million), which means that citizens are more accustomed to the presence of pets.

Dogs have become a trend in Spanish society and this has not gone unnoticed by the company. As such, more and more dog-friendly spaces are demanded in the workplace, mainly because of its many benefits. And that, according to a comparative study in the UK among more than 1,000 companies, echoed by the Royal Canine Society of Spain (RSCE), the results of allowing dogs access are so beneficial.

The positive effect of having a dog in the office directly benefit employers and employees. “First of all, the measure is an inexhaustible resource for attracting talent, especially among the youngest minds and those who are adaptable to time. Not without reason, homes in our country are more familiar with dogs,” they explain.

Likewise dog-friendly workspaces indicate more income,”they make the work environment more supportive, tolerant and respectful. It also stimulates productivity and creativity, reduce stress. In short, they like the climate at work and in the case of companion animals it helps with their socialization.”

In Spain, permissive places with the inclusion of dogs are usually limited to restaurants, recreation and hospitality. “In fact, more and more places are accepting animal entry, and in fact breed websites are identifying places that allow dogs. Now, the next step is from a bar or restaurant to an office, a change that is not only cultural, but also brings economic and labor benefits“, prompted the RSCE.

TIPS FOR TAKING BUSINESS TO A DOG-FRIENDLY FIELD

First of all, they urge to advertise what is dog-friendly, “it is relevant that companies committed to this policy openly communicate it to all users: ‘open to dogs’ (open to dogs) works”.

Although, a set of rules should be established for dogs and their owners, respecting cleanliness and general health.

Another important point is the importance of good education, “ensuring that the dog’s behavior will be ideal in the work environment is important. Responsible breeders can play a key role.”

Likewise, the office can have certain areas where access to animals can be vetoed.

On the other hand, they think it’s best for the office to have little things for dogs to enjoy, like bowls so they can eat, provide clean water, games and things they can play with…

And, if possible, an open space, “no matter how small, it will please dogs, in addition to making it easier for them to urinate while causing as little inconvenience to staff and customers as possible.”
