Microsoft announced a new AI tool for turning text into images

Microsoft announced this Tuesday Bing Image Creator, a new tool powered by artificial intelligence (AI) that lets you convert any text into an image.

“Powered by the latest DALL-E model from our partners at OpenAI, Bing Image Creator lets you create images using only your own words to describe the image you want to view,” the company explained in a statement.

“Can you picture an astronaut walking through a galaxy of sunflowers?” one user asked Image Creator, in the example the company provided.

To which Bing Image Creator responded with four different stylized images of an astronaut walking through a galaxy of sunflowers seen from different angles.

The result is similar to what DALL-E users have been able to get for months, but with the difference that in the bottom margin of the image you can read a message that says: “Generated with Image Generator”.

The tool is available for Bing and Microsoft Edge users in preview, and is expected to be fully integrated into the Bing chat experience, the company notes.

Microsoft also announced on Tuesday Knowledge Card 2.0, an “AI-powered infographic-inspired experience that delivers fun facts and important information at a glance.”

Last week, the tech giant also announced it would be adding its generative AI technology to some of its most popular business applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

For its part, Google announced on Tuesday that it was opening up early access to a select group of users in the US and UK to interact with Bard, its AI-powered chatbot and rival to ChatGPT OpenAI and Microsoft’s Bing.
