An amateur photographer in Wales, England, has captured a rare sight of pink grasshoppers in his garden while he is pruning. The chance of encountering an insect like this is 1% in life.

According to BBC News, the 65-year-old man identified as Gary Phillips, was chopping up a dahlia when he came across the unexpected find and photographed it. “I’ve never heard of them,” he commented.

“I have to concentrate properly on what I have seen and i realized it was a pink grasshopper i thought that must be weirdhe added.

And while grasshoppers are insects that can be found in many parts of the world, pink ones are extremely rare.

As described on the portal very curiousthe coloring “can be very beautiful, but it can be makes them stand out, thereby becoming a focus for predators and hunters“.

Nonetheless, they are a non-threatened species its breeding in captivity has been successful. Although, it is easier to find them in an unnatural environment, experts say. In nature, their survival would be lower.

For now, experts believe that pink grasshoppers have this color due to a genetic mutation they suffer fromexplained the BBC, but this hypothesis was not confirmed.
