Ukraine.- The Ukrainians successfully laid siege to the city of Bakhmut

MADRID, July 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ukrainian Armed Forces in recent days have managed to impose themselves around the town of Bakhmut, in the Donetsk region, thereby controlling access to the city which both sides in the conflict yearn for its strategic value.

“In Bakhmut, our defenders have been controlling the entrance, exit and movement of the enemy through the city for several days,” Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar reported on her Telegram channel on Monday.

According to Maliar, this progress was made possible thanks to the fact that, in the process of counteroffensives, Ukrainian troops managed to capture several key Russian military checkpoints in the vicinity of Bakhmut.

The commander of the Ukrainian Army Ground Forces, Oleksander Sirskii, confirmed Monday that the Russian Armed Forces deployed in Bakhmut are completely “stuck”, and they are gradually being forced to leave their positions.

British military intelligence had noted over the weekend that Ukrainian troops had been making “sustainable advance” in the vicinity of Bakhmut, a town which was once again the scene of heavy fighting.

The Russians took control of Bakhmut in late May thanks to the performance of Wagner Group’s mercenaries, who, having captured the city, abandoned their positions and handed over command to regular troops. Since then Ukraine has worked hard to retake the city.
