Indra will strengthen the Eurofighter’s ability to detect threats and fly safely

MADRID, 17 (EUROPA PRESS)

Indra will expand the acceptance band of the Eurofighter Typhoon’s self-protection system, called ‘DASS Praetorian’, to enhance the aircraft’s ability to detect threats and fly safely on the “most complex” missions, the company reported in a release. .

In this way, technology and defense companies are advancing in the integration of “one of the most important elements” for the evolution of systems that protect the Eurofighter from enemy missile and radar attacks.

During the celebration of the Royal International Air Tattoo, one of the most important air events of a military nature in the world, the Italian defense company Leonardo announced, on behalf of the EuroDASS consortium (of which Leonardo, Elettronica, Indra and Hensoldt are part ), a new upgrade package that will incorporate the protection systems ‘DASS Praetorian’ self, including a ribbon extension developed by Indra.

“These upgrades will be proposed to the Eurofighter Typhoon’s partner countries – Germany, Spain, Italy and the UK – and subsequently offered to export customers. Its development will increase the survivability of the aircraft and lay the foundation for the integration of the defense system with the high-capacity E-Scan radar,” explained Indra.

These include the new ECRS Mk1 radar being developed by Hensoldt and Indra with Leonardo support for the Spanish and German air forces, the ECRS Mk2 currently being developed by Leonardo and BAE Systems with Indra’s participation for the Eurofighter Typhoons of United Kingdom, and the ECRS MK0 being operated by Kuwait and Qatar.

The director of the Indra defense platform, Pedro Barco, emphasized that the Spanish company is the second supplier of avionics systems for the Eurofighter Typhoon and “the only company” participating in the evolution of the self-protection system and in the development of two new defense systems. radar version.

“This highlights, once again, the company’s ability to accelerate the development of next-generation technologies that European armies need,” he said.

In addition to the expansion of the reception band, the ‘DASS Praetorian’ update will incorporate new advanced digital signal processing co-developed with Hensoldt and “new signal processing algorithms, in addition to improving processing speed, capacity and memory,” added Indra. .
