The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has announced that this Monday he will convene an emergency meeting of members of the Government – known as COBRA – to address the situation in Israel following the attacks launched at the weekend by Islamist groups. Resistance Movement (Hamas).
“I will chair a COBRA (meeting) with my ministerial colleagues this afternoon, where we will continue to address this situation, but we are in close dialogue with our Israeli counterparts,” the British prime minister said, according to information gathered by SkyNews. .
Sunak has confirmed that Britain has in the past supplied military equipment used by Israel to fight Hamas attacks, and has stated that he has conveyed London’s full support to his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu.
“We will continue to provide it,” said the British Prime Minister, assuring support to Israel in diplomatic matters, at Intelligence or security level, “according to their needs.”
Previously, Prime Minister Sunak had stressed that the UK had a “very long relationship” with Israel, and had insisted that London, to be precise, was “one of its strongest allies.”
The main figures of the British Government, including the ‘prime minister’ himself; Secretary of State, James Cleverly; or Interior Minister, Suella Braverman, has shown her support for Israel since the Hamas offensive, which began last Saturday with massive missile attacks on Israel’s main cities.
