- Meteorologists have issued an orange warning for strong wind gusts in Agder and inland areas of Rogaland and Vestland.
- The warning was in effect from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon, but the winds had already started to blow strong.
- One of the causes of the storm was said to be the British hurricane “Babet”. High pressure over Great Britain and low pressure over Nordland cause strong winds in southwest Norway.
The meteorologist in charge of the Meteorological Institute, Charalampos Sarchosidis, told VG on Friday morning that there was a big storm in the mountains in the southwestern part of the country.
Meteorologists predict the strongest wind gusts in the last ten years will occur in several places this weekend.
– That orange danger warning because the wind only started to be felt this afternoon, but the wind was already starting to get strong. Winds are gradually moving toward stronger winds, Sarchosidis said.

Rush tire change in Southern Norway
The hurricane hit sane southerners hard. Outside Fevik Dekk in Grimstad, cars queued for a long time to change winter tires.
Trygve Mathias Walterfang said he had spent more than three hours in line on Friday morning.
– If my mindset becomes negative, I imagine another hour, but I think it will go faster, said Walterfang, who still had not installed winter tires when VG spoke to him.
At 1:50 p.m., Walterfang informed VG that he was still stuck in the queue. He had now been there for more than five hours.
He was not surprised by the long queue. This is something that happens every year, according to southerners.
– People don’t do it until they are forced to do it. I really only have myself to blame, he admits.
Before Agderposten who first spoke to Walterfang.
Walterfang’s colleagues were more involved in the reporting than he was. That’s where the “command” to change tires comes from.
– My roommate, who is more up-to-date with the news, says now is the time.
– Have you noticed anything about the storm?
– Nothing in particular, apart from strong winds. There was a little extra noise last night.
Several cities met regarding the storm
Several cities in the southern region have held meetings with the regional preparedness council in Agder regarding the impending storm.

– “Tight space” and more wind in the middle
The reason for the stormy weather is high pressure in Nordland, and low pressure in Great Britain.
In recent days, the storm “Babet” has hit the British Isles, and especially in Scotland.
A woman has been confirmed dead after she became stranded in a river in Scotland during a storm, it has been written BBC.
– When these two weather fronts are very close to each other, they are “busy” and have more wind in the middle. This now affects Agder, Rogaland and Vestland, explained Sarchosidis.
He said that “Babet” caused stormy weather in Western Europe.
– There is a lot of wind in several places in Europe, and wind warnings have been sent out in several countries due to low pressure from the UK.
In the north east of Scotland there is a red warning for heavy rain. IN THE danger warning British meteorologists report that “unusually heavy rain could cause flooding and destruction”.
Earlier on Friday morning, police in Agder asked motorists and other people traveling on the district’s roads to be aware of slippery roads on some roads.

The staff is ready
Traffic operator Kjetil Larsen at western Vegtrafikksentralen told VG on Friday morning that they were preparing staff in Western Norway in light of the storm.
– We have prepared staff at head office to be able to receive all inquiries from the public, while our contractors have additional standby outside to handle tree felling and other unforeseen circumstances.
On Friday morning, it was the inland region of Vestland that felt the strongest gusts, according to Larsen.
