Aleksander Aamodt Kilde wins the World Cup downhill: – Absolutely fantastic

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde made a huge mistake and ended up off the podium in the World Cup final. But the 29-year-old won a generous downhill ball having also won the World Cup in super-G overall. Hours later, his girlfriend Mikaela Shiffrin won the women’s downhill race.

– Fy’s dad, he’s raw. That’s complete. “It’s so deserved, I almost started laughing here,” Kilde told V Sport 1.

He’s doing relatively well for his own part as well. 4th place gives the overall win in the downhill.

– Oh my lord hat. It’s really amazing. “The best I’ve had so far in my career,” he said after an exciting race.

– It is right that Kilde won this, says Viasat expert Kjetil André Aamodt.

Vincent Kriechmayr won the race at Courchevel-Meribel ahead of Marco Odermatt and Beat Feuz. Aamodt Kilde didn’t drive flawlessly, but did quite well in the dramatic finale.

Thus, the Norwegian became the fastest rider of the season in a comeback after a serious knee injury. He ended up in a place behind rivals Beat Feuz in next year’s World Cup course at French Courchevel. Thus, the Swiss Olympic winner behind Aamodt Kilde ended overall.

And it was an even better day for Tim Kilde hours later: His girlfriend, Mikaela Shiffrin, won the women’s downhill race. After the finish, the two met at the finish area where they hugged and kissed each other.

IT GOES ON: Aamodt Kilde (left) beats Olympic winner Beat Feuz by 13 points in the downhill cup.

– It’s really exciting, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde told V Sport 1 along the way.

He won three downhill races at Kitzbühl, Weng and Beaver Creek, but didn’t quite make it at the Olympics. There, the Bærum man was number five downhill, but took silver in combination and bronze in super-G.

Aamodt Kilde leads the downhill cup with 23 points beating Beat Feuz before the race and ends the downhill cup with 13 points. Thus, he became the fourth Norwegian to win a generous globe from the FIS. Aksel Lund Svindal (2), Kjetil Jansrud and Lasse Kjus have previously won downhill combined.

The Norwegian was nervous before starting and had a big problem with the first jump – called Zenit – in next year’s demanding World Cup course.

– I tried to give gas, Aamodt Kilde explained.

– Feelings throw off, he added.

– Very extreme, says Viasat expert Marius Arnesen.

Aamodt Kilde had reds on the field, but was seven hundred ahead of Feuz in the final interval. At the finish, it was still three tenths to the advantage of Switzerland, who won Olympic gold earlier this season.

– There are a little too many mistakes. This could end the whole ballet here, Kilde said before it was all decided.

But in the end endured.

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde has never won a World Cup or Olympic gold. But he won the World Cup overall in the 2019/20 season and also won the World Cup in super-G six years ago.

– He’s built legend status as one of the greatest ever, says Kjetil André Aamodt – with nine Olympic and World Cup gold medals and one World Cup win in total.

At the Olympics, there were two medals in Kilde:
