MADRID, May 11. (EUROPEAN PRESS) –
At least seven people have died during political protests in Guinea and more than thirty people have been injured by gunshots, according to Guinea Living Forces (FVG), organizers of demonstrations against the military junta that rules the African country.
In a statement, FGV condemned that the demonstrations demanded a return to constitutional order, as well as the release of all political prisoners, and they denounced that it took place “in a climate of tension, with the disproportionate use of public force and with intimidation”.
Making a tentative balance from the past day, they have confirmed that seven people died as a result of gunshots, which also left 32 injured, 15 of them serious.
Additionally, they have recorded 52 prisoners, and condemned infiltration by violent individuals in the demonstrations, which they reaffirmed are peaceful.
Similarly, three members of the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC) were released this Wednesday after being arrested several months ago, one of the demands of the protests. They are Foniké Mengué, Ibrahima Diallo and Billo Bah, senior formation officials.
There was a new mobilization called for on Thursday in the capital, Conakry, despite the fact that Guinea’s junta banned demonstrations to demand a return to constitutional order due to delays in military authority when calling for elections after the 2021 coup.
The National Committee for Reconciliation and Development (CNRD) — the official name of the Guinea-led council — was created in the African country following the September 2021 coup against then president, Alpha Condé, following months of political crisis in the country. because of his decision to amend the Constitution to run for a third term and his victory in the 2020 presidential election, where other candidates denounced fraud.
