Colombia was a leading Latin American country at the World Economic Forum, a meeting that culminated in President Duque’s working visits to Britain, Turkey and Switzerland.

During his working visit to the three countries, the Head of State held a meeting with the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson; Prince William, Duke of Cambridge; Presidents of Turkey, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Israel and Rwanda; and the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, among other world leaders, entrepreneurs and investors.

As for the World Economic Forum, in Davos, the President held 42 meetings with heads of state, company presidents, world leaders, directors of United Nations organizations and private entities, such as FIFA.

During President Duque’s meeting with Microsoft founder Bill Gates, world technology leaders highlighted Colombia’s leadership in developing the environmental agenda.

Important economic, investment, environmental agreements and commitments reached at the Forum, as well as Colombia’s recognition in international politics, of which Colombia is a leading country.

Two concrete actions in this regard were Turkey, which upgraded bilateral relations with Colombia to the level of ‘strategic ally’, confirmed the interest of the business sector to increase investment in the country, and invested more than USD 200 million. In addition, the Free Trade Agreement with the UK was formalized, after the so-called Brexit, or its departure from the European Union.

“I think the general balance of this whole process is, firstly, moving forward in British investment in our country. There is a very specific message, that there is already more than USD 400 million in investment that is about to materialize.”President Duque stated.

Regarding this working visit to this Swiss city, where the World Economic Forum was taking place, the President stated that the result was the strengthening of relations with other governments, and the interest of many companies that have participated, in realizing investment in renewable energy. energy, in the hotel, metalworking and concession sectors.

“And I also believe that Colombia is positioning itself on the issues of Biodiversity, on the issues of the fourth industrial revolution, and also starting the conversation about green finance in a quite important way, through carbon ties with Green Taxonomy, where we are practically the leaders area” highlighted.

The meeting with Microsoft founder Bill Gates, a world leader in technology, highlighted Colombia’s leadership in developing an environmental concern agenda and the fight against the climate crisis.

The Head of State spoke with Gates about the country’s positive results in terms of technology and environmental protection. For example, verified tycoons on the country map, progress in the Energy Transition, and the hundred-fold growth in unconventional renewable energy achieved in Colombia in the last four years.
