Cryptocurrency Dogecoin rose strongly after Tesla boss Elon Musk said the electric car maker would accept it as payment for its products.
“Tesla can be bought with Dogecoin,” Elon Musk said on social media.
Dogecoin, popular with retail investors, rose 18 percent, surpassing $0.2, after Friday’s tweet.
The foregoing ratified the position of head of Tesla, who assured in December that he would allow the use of Dogecoin as a test, which allowed the cryptocurrency to earn more than 20 percent.
Musk’s posts about cryptocurrencies, including one calling it “people’s cryptocurrency,” sent it nearly 4,000 percent in 2021.
What can be bought at Tesla with Dogecoin?
While it’s not possible to buy an electric vehicle, the items that can be purchased include:
- Cyberquad for Kids, a kind of electric ATV for 12,020 dogecoin
- Giga Texas belt buckle, for 835 dogecoin
- The Cyberwhistle, a Cybertruck-inspired whistle priced at 300 dogecoins
