England sanction several Russian oligarchs – Chelsea owner Abramovich among them

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is one of seven Russian oligarchs who have been sanctioned by British authorities on Thursday. The government has now sanctioned more than 200 individuals and companies linked to Russia after it invaded Ukraine on February 24.

According to British authorities, Abramovich will freeze his assets, and will have a ban on transactions with British individuals and companies as well as a travel ban.

– Cruel

– There is no safe haven for those who have supported Putin’s malicious attacks on Ukraine. Today’s sanctions are the latest step in Britain’s steadfast support for the Ukrainian people. We will be ruthless in prosecuting those who permit the killing of civilians, the destruction of hospitals and the illegal occupation of a sovereign ally,” British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a statement.

The other six Russian oligarchs are:

* Oleg Deripaska, who owns shares in En + Group

* Igor Setsjin, CEO of Rosneft

* Andrey Kostin, Chairman of the Board of VTB Bank

* Alexei Miller, CEO of energy company Gazprom

* Nikolai Tokarev, president of the Russian state-owned pipeline company Transneft

* Dmitri Lebedev, Chairman of the Board of Bank Rossija

Gonna sell the club

Abramovich said in a press release last week that he would sell Premier League club Chelsea.

“As I said before, I always make decisions with the best interests of the club in mind. In the current situation, I have made the decision to sell the club, because I believe it is in the best interests of the club, its fans, employees, sponsors and club partners. “, said in a statement from Russia.

“The sale of the club will not be forced, but will follow a normal process. I will not ask for a loan to be repaid,” the statement continued.
