Ground service workers at Gatwick airport (London) called for an eight-day strike

MADRID, August 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Workers at Red Handling, a ground handling company, and Wilson James, who manages passenger assistance contracts, have called for an eight-day strike at London’s Gatwick airport to start tomorrow, 18 August.

The protest will affect more than 230 workers affiliated with Unite, the main union in the UK, and is caused by a wage dispute, as “both companies have not made an offer that meets workers’ expectations.”

Unite’s regional manager, Dominic Rothwell, has warned that the strike will cause “serious disruption” throughout the airport, in addition to blaming employers for the layoffs, as “they had every opportunity to make a fair salary offer, but they didn’t.” .”

In particular, Red Handling workers are expected to begin their first strike action tomorrow, Friday through Monday, August 21. The second strike will start on August 25 and end on August 28.

Meanwhile, the strike on Wilson James will also start this Friday and will end next Sunday, August 20, and then, from August 22 to August 24, there will be a second wave of protests.

Regarding the affected airlines, Red Handling is responsible for ground handling for Norse Atlantic, Norwegian, Delta, TAP Air Portugal and Saudi.

During the first four days of the strike on Red Handling, Unite believes 216 flights could be disrupted or delayed, impacting some 45,000 passengers.
