IVECO eDaily pulled over 153 tons to claim the Guinness World Record™ on PortalAutomotriz.com

A standard fully electric IVECO eDaily 3.5 tonne van has been awarded the official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for “Heaviest Weight Towed by an Electric Van”.

IVECO eDaily known for its class-leading 3.5 ton towing capacity and robust truck-based chassis, with robust van engineering has now cemented its place in the history books with an official Guinness World Record. .

Pulling an incredible 153.58 tons, this standard production electric vehicle is now recognized around the world for its wide range of capabilities. In fact, this feat surpasses the record set by an all-wheel drive electric car, an impressive feat accomplished by the eDaily’s 140kW rear-wheel drive powertrain with 400Nm of torque.

On June 20, 2023, the record-breaking eDaily connected to the IVECO X-Way Strator heavy truck, built for IVECO customer G&B Finch haulage company in Essex. This powerful machine is specifically designed to deal with large-scale load movements of up to 150 tons.

The truck trailer was loaded with large Collard Group excavators weighing over 50 tonnes, with an additional seven tonnes of ballast added for good measure. A fully loaded IVECO X-Way 8×4 dump truck is then attached to the Strator trailer before the airport all-terrain fire truck completes the 153-tonne road train. A specialist tow bar designed by Mike Parker Design that meets registration criteria ensures these heavy loads are secured to eDaily.

Once set in motion, the eDaily slowly descends the designated 100-foot course and crosses the finish line in front of the supervisor of GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ to claim its impressive award. The van’s ‘high power’ mode, fitted as standard across all eDailys, is used on the move, providing an extra burst of power in tough towing conditions for the all-electric van.

Blackbushe Airport in Surrey was selected as the site for the record trial because its additional runway, surface and slope met the stringent GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ criteria. All towed vehicles are weighed using a precision weighing mat provided by Micro Weighing Solutions as part of the official Guinness regulations.

Who better than England’s current strongest man, Adam Bishop, to host eDaily and break a world record. He said: “The van was amazing. The scale of his challenge and what he attracted was overwhelming, but he rolled up his sleeves and got on with the job. Extraordinary!”

Mike Cutts, IVECO UK Light Business Line Manager, said: “IVECO eDaily has made history with this impressive record, bolstering eDaily’s strength, durability and extensive capabilities. With an initial target of 130 tons, eDaily far exceeds the record requirement. I want to thank everyone who came together to make this possible, it’s a true team effort.”

IVECO eDaily makes electric vehicle history and highlights the advantages of the body-on-frame concept and torque delivery directly from the electric motor. Operators undertaking heavy towing missions can rest assured that eDaily is more than capable of its official towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes.
