Jaguar Land Rover to add What3words location technology to new and old cars

vehicle Jaguar and Land Rover to get What3words lokasi location technology designed to make it easier to find places on the planet that don’t have street addresses, and some even do, the company reports.

How does What3words work?

What3words applies a three-word label to every 10 square foot swath of Earth. Smartphone apps, company websites, and some navigation systems can tell you what a place is labeled for, or find a place if it has all three words. This is an illustration of how digital technology can change the way we move around the world, especially with the help of digital maps.

Useful technology for emergency services

Technology can be useful for finding places without addresses, that’s why Emergency services in most of the UK and parts of the US and Canada have started using What3words. You can tell a friend where you were at an amusement park or a search and rescue officer where you were sitting on the street with a broken ankle. Words can be easier to remember and communicate than latitude and longitude coordinates.

How can this technology be used in cars?

In cars, they can be integrated with navigation systems, helping customers “find their way anywhere in the world without having to worry about connectivity,” said Mark Carter, Jaguar Land Rover navigation technology executive, in a statement.

What3words investor Mercedes is already offering the technology in several cars. Others include Subaru, Lamborghini, Lotus, Mitsubishi and Tata Motors. Through a partnership with Here Technologies, Jaguar Land Rover will install What3words in new cars and update some older models with over-the-air software updates.
