Dutch Jutta Leerdam was in a class of her own when she won the gold medal in the women’s sprint during the Skating European Championships at Vikingskipet.
She won three of four lengths during the championship at Hamar. Leerdam won Saturday’s 500 meters for 37.76 and slipped to 1,14.80 over the double over. He also won the championship in 2021.
The girl from the Netherlands was not aware that she is now the first woman to win the European sprint champion for the second time.
– Oh, I didn’t know that. The taste is amazing. I want to break a record, he told Viaplay after being told about the record.
Her teammate Femke Kok, who won the 500 meters event Friday, took silver, while the bronze went to Vanessa Herzog of Austria with three third places.
Ragne Wiklund won the 3000 meters and beat overall leader Antoinette Rijpma de Jong after two lengths during all-around EC skating at Vikingskipet.
Wiklund recorded a time of 3:59.92. De Jong followed closely on 4.01.40.
Combined after two lengths, the Dutch runner took the lead ahead of teammate Marijke Groenewoud. 2.83 seconds separated them at the front 1500 meters.
Wiklund followed in third place. He was six-tenths behind, but completely in the medal race.
