The government declares 2022 as a year of respect for those who died in the Battle of Malvinas

This year 40 years of war where Argentina face great Britain for Falkland sovereignty. Therefore, the Government decided to announce 2022 as “tribute” year from the Argentinian people to those who have fallen into conflict in the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia, South Sandwich and corresponding sea and island spaces, as well as their families and veterans of the Malvinas”.

As explained by Decision 17/2022 published in Official newsletter These “inclusive and federal” awards will be reflected in two editions throughout the year. In the other hand, “All official documentation of the National Public Administration, centralized and decentralized, as well as the autonomous entities that depend on them, must bear the legend ‘The Falklands are Argentina'”, the same phrase as the title of the document.

On the other hand, the “National Executive Power will carry out actions aimed at disseminating and raising awareness On Argentine sovereign rights about ‘The Falkland Islands Question’ and will highlight the main argument of the Argentine position”. As they explain, this action will be carried out both nationally and internationally.

Furthermore, as a reflection of this, a recital in remembrance of the inter-ministerial initiative “Agenda Malvinas – 40 years”, launched by Alberto Fernandez in November 2021.

As explained in the document signed by the President and the Chief of Staff, Juan Manzur, “The 1982 conflict does not change the nature of the sovereignty dispute between the Republic of Argentina and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland over Falkland Islands, South Georgia, South Sandwich and related maritime and island territories, which Still waiting for a settlement through bilateral negotiations between the two governments.”

In this way, they quoted the resolution of November 9, 1982 which was approved by the General Assembly Union of nations, where the two countries are asked to “To continue negotiations to find a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute over the islands.”

“The Argentine Republic, during all its continuous and democratic rule, has resisted the path of coercion and has shown itself to be persistently willing to bilateral negotiations as a means to achieve peaceful solution from controversy”, the document added.

And he concluded: “The main axis of the National Government is reaffirmation of Argentine sovereignty over the archipelago, a call for resumption of dialogue and talks with the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, ratification of Argentina’s democratic commitment to peaceful means for the resolution of disputes and respect for international rights“.
