The Netherlands and the UK don’t want their athletes to bring their phones and laptops to Beijing 2022

That Beijing Winter Olympics is near and a situation far enough away from sport is being experienced by two federations that both care deeply about the high-level surveillance that the Chinese government has over the Internet and communications in general.

Therefore, both United Kingdom as Netherlands take a few steps to do not expose your athletes to possible espionage that Chinese authorities can do with them while they are at the sports fair which will take place between February 4 and 20 this year.

according to Telegraph, British Olympic Association (BOA) will send the device so its athletes can stay connected, which will not be new or personal. Moreover, once the delegation returned to British soil, the device used will be destroyed all to avoid the possibility of monitoring activities.

This situation is not new, because on previous occasions sporting entities already offering laptops and mobile phones to athletes as needed, but on that occasion they were more of an advice than an obligation, which on this occasion is stronger, especially after the events of the last few years where companies like Huawei accused spy for chinese government, a flag planted by the United States and supported by Britain blindly.

Likewise with the federation’s decision Dutch, which ensures that its athletes qualify for the Beijing 2022 they will bring with them new and unused devices, all to protect your personal data from the extreme surveillance of the Chinese government.

According to the sports entity, cybersecurity is part of the risk assessment which takes place around a delegation from the Netherlands who will be attending a sporting event that will take place in the city of Beijing and Zhangjiakou.
