Truss jumps into battle for the job of Prime Minister in Great Britain

Thus, he is the tenth candidate to register in the battle for the job, report BBC.

The 1922 party committee will set a schedule for electing a new leadership on Monday.

Truss announced his candidacy at Daily Telegraph and he told the newspaper he would cut taxes “from day one” if he was elected prime minister.

– I stand as a candidate because I lead, deliver and make difficult decisions. “I have a clear vision of where we need to be, and the experience and determination it takes to get there,” Truss said.

Tax is the central theme

He also hinted that he would join his rivals in cutting corporate taxes, reversing the National Insurance contribution increase and corporate tax reform.

Several candidates have applied over the weekend, and many of them have made tax policy a central theme in their bids. However, questions have been raised about how the candidates will pay their tax pledges, writes the BBC.

Jeremy Hunt, Sajid Javid, former secretary of health, and secretary of commerce Penny Mordaunt announced Saturday night that they were standing.

Experienced politician

Truss left early from the G20 meeting in Bali, Indonesia last week after Johnson announced he was stepping down as prime minister and leader of the Conservative Party.

The 46-year-old foreign minister has served in three Conservative governments since he was elected to Parliament in 2010.

He was environment minister in David Cameron’s government from July 2014 to June 2016, and he was justice minister in Theresa May’s government from July 2016 to June 2017, before being appointed secretary of state by Boris Johnson last year.

Truss grew up in Leeds in northern England and worked for ten years in the energy and telecommunications sectors before entering politics, according to the AFP news agency.
