The UN told Russia that they would not be able to win the war and had to negotiate
UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned Russia on Tuesday that it is impossible for him to gain control from across Ukraine and urged Moscow to stop attacks and negotiate peace. Guterres, speaking to reporters, emphasized that there is “diplomatic progress” on some of the key conflict issues that must beenough“so that a cessation of hostilities is announced now and serious negotiations resume. “This war cannot be won. Before or after, must move from the battlefield to the peace table. This is inevitable,” urged the UN chief, who denounced that Ukraine was going through “hell.”
In this regard, Guterres draws attention to “systematic bombing terrorizing civilians”; attacks on hospitals, schools, homes and shelters and how this whole campaign is increasing every day. “For more than two weeks Mariupol was surrounded by the Russian Army and bombarded relentlessly. For what? Even if Mariupol falls, Ukraine cannot be conquered city to city, street to street, house to house. The only result of all this is more suffering, more destruction and more horror,” he said.
