Boris Johnson, former British Prime Minister, returns from his vacation in the Caribbean.

British television channel Sky News aired footage of Johnson’s landing this Saturday.

His return days after Liz Truss’ resignation as prime minister strengthened the hypothesis that Johnson will submit his candidacy for Downing Street. Something he has not officially stated but according to political allies who spoke to him, could happen, he told Sky News.

The bookmakers made him one of the favorites to win the contest. His return will mark his comeback as a **polarized figure,** driven out by a series of scandals and lies at work. Opponents say trying again will only create more controversy and disappointment.

Penny Mordaunt, 49, a Royal Navy reserve soldier and current leader of the House of Commons, has become the first candidate to publicly declare her candidacy. In a tweet, he stated that he represented “new beginning“for the country.

Mordaunt is the bookies’ third favorite. Outside of Tory circles, she is perhaps best known for her appearance on the 2014 scuba reality show “Splash!”

On the other hand, 42-year-old Rishi Sunak, a former finance minister during the Johnson administration, appears to be the MP’s favourite. His supporters see him as a figure to rely on in a struggling economy. He had already confronted Truss when he was running for prime minister, and warned the Conservatives that Truss’ tax cut plans would be disastrous.

According to a tweet from Tobias Ellwood, an official of the Conservative party, Rishi Sunak is over the threshold 100 endorsements, needed to compete for the leadership of the Conservative Party.

The Conservative Party has started a lightning race to find a prime minister. The candidates will need the backing of at least 100 MPs, something Sunak and Johnson both have. Voting will end next Friday.
