Delegates from the two countries debated in the fair capital the “use of selective sanctions to prevent and uncover malicious activity” and demonstrated – they said – “a willingness to act to maintain international standards”.
It all has to do with the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the position taken by the United States and its Western allies.
For the delegation that met the day before, “unprecedented costs have been imposed on the Kremlin,” said a statement released here on Thursday to the media.
Translated, that means that since the start of Russia’s military operations in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, “more than 2,500 people and entities have been designated, and billions of dollars in assets have been blocked” to Moscow, they said.
In this way they aim to “demonstrate collective leadership in the particular use” of what they consider to be “lawful and effective sanctions to deal with threats to international peace and security.”
From the outset, Russia denounced that by compulsively complying with sanctions, in the case of Europe, they are not only harming their own interests, but also that of their population, which has long since begun to suffer from the actions and consequences of such decisions.
In March 2022, shortly after the outbreak of hostilities, the spokesman for the Russian Presidency, Dmitri Peskov, emphasized that those who persist in the policy of sanctions against their country must ask themselves whether they achieved any goal.
“Those who are still addicted to restrictions on international affairs should already be asking themselves whether they are achieving any goal by continuing with that policy,” he later said.
