MADRID, October 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Iranian government has summoned again this Wednesday the British ambassador in Tehran, Simon Shercliff, for “disturbing” statements from London in connection with protests in recent weeks following the death of Mahsa Amini in custody, arrested for allegedly wearing the wrong face veil.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has indicated in a statement published on its website that Tehran “strongly condemns the interference of the “British Government in” Iran’s “internal affairs” by using false and provocative interpretations of the situation in the country.
Likewise, he has denounced that London “issued a one-sided and selective communiqué” and thus pointed out “that it has something to do with the scenario prepared by the terrorists, working against the state”. Finally, he stressed that Iranian authorities “will consider possible options in response to unusual actions” by Britain.
In recent days, the Iranian government has summoned several Western ambassadors – including Shercliff, who was summoned last week – in protest against criticism of the suppression of demonstrations in the country after Amini’s death, which has resulted in more than 150 deaths, according to non-governmental organizations. the Iranian Human Rights Administration (IHR).
Amini was arrested on September 13 and died three days after falling into a coma after collapsing in a detention center, amid allegations of torture and ill-treatment. Police have denied the allegations and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has promised an investigation.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei accused the United States and Israel on Monday of being behind the “riots” in the context of the protests. “I explicitly said that these riots and security incidents were engineered by the United States and the fake and usurper Zionist regime — referring to Israel –,” he stressed.
