Queen Elizabeth, Queen Elizabeth II

On Thursday night, news broke that Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain had died aged 96.

Death came suddenly for many – for the queen seemed to be in good spirits, up and working, no later than the days before she died. However, it might not be so strange.

During his 70 years on the throne, the king rarely took time off, and even after turning 90 he continued to work – with more than 400 official duties in a calendar year.

And he served royal duties until the day before he died.

Historical meeting

On the eve of Queen Elizabeth’s death, a big topic of conversation in the country was the change of prime minister. After Boris Johnson stepped down as party leader and prime minister in July, his partner Liz Truss was announced Monday as his successor.

based on W . Magazine it was important for the Queen to give Johnson a proper farewell before he retires, and the two had just had one last meeting before it was too late. On Tuesday, the former prime minister was at Balmoral Castle for his final thanks and farewell, a meeting which, by the way, became historic.

Traditionally, the meeting was held at Buckingham Palace, but due to the Queen’s health, the meeting was moved to Scotland this year. The same thing happened at the Queen’s meeting with Johnson’s heir, Trauss, which took place on the same day.

The meeting with Trauss is also documented with an official photo in which Queen Elizabeth looks excited.

Canceled mission

However, on the weekend before the prime minister’s meeting, the queen had to cancel the mission due to her health.

The 96-year-old monarch is scheduled to attend The Braemar Highland Gathering, an annual event he attends in Scotland every summer. However, nothing happened this year, as the queen canceled it just before the weekend.

The day before he died, he was also supposed to participate in a digital meeting that resulted in nothing. Over the past year, there have been many cancellations for the Queen, mainly due to her health. Among other things, he missed most of the 70th anniversary of his throne in June.

– Be in very good condition

However, when the king stayed home the weekend before he died, he was not alone.

His son, then Prince Charles, and his wife, Duchess Camilla, both traveled to Scotland to attend The Braemar Highland Gathering at the Queen’s premises, and the family was also visited from outside by the Reverend Iain Greenshields.

To Time told the priest that he had lunch with members of the royal family on Saturday and dinner with them on Sunday – which he described as a great visit.

– His memory is clear, and he is full of fun, he said.

Furthermore, Greenshields added that he was shocked to hear that he was unwell moments later:

– He’s in great shape on the weekends. He spoke to me privately about his time at Balmoral when he was younger, and about the horses of his past. He’s amazing.

“Elizabeth R”

On Wednesday, Britain’s longest-serving monarch shared what would be his final official statement.

Via the public Instagram profile of the British royal family, he later expressed condolences to those who lost someone in a knife attack in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan on Sunday.
