MADRID, October 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, met with his British counterpart, James Cleverly, who reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to reaching an agreement between the country and the EU in Gibraltar “that works for everyone in the region.
Albares has reported, via Twitter, that at the meeting, which took place in Oxford – where Spain’s head of diplomacy went to participate in the Hispano-British Summit – the two discussed the strategic bilateral relationship between Spain and the UK.
“We want a mutually beneficial relationship for our citizens,” said Spain’s foreign minister, who shared a picture of the event.
For his part, Cleverly has highlighted, also through the same social network, that the meeting has served to “work together” on “security, prosperity and opportunity”. Likewise, it has reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to reaching an agreement with the EU on Gibraltar.
In this regard, the Government of Gibraltar has assured that it has been working “closely” with the UK Foreign Office in light of the Cleverly and Albares meeting, which ultimately became an “opportunity” to ratify the UK commitment.
