- The alliance between Colombia and the UK includes more than 15 projects on topics such as: energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, climate policy and green finance.
- The authorities of the two countries signed the reform, which seeks to incorporate the priorities of the new Government of President Gustavo Petro on environmental issues, to achieve Colombia’s World Power of Life.

The Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development, Susana Muhamad, who led the delegation present at COP 27 starting on Sunday in Egypt, signed the document updating the Alliance for Bilateral Cooperation between the UK and Colombia on Sustainable Growth.
“The UK is a strategic ally when it comes to protecting our ecosystem. This is why we will focus on defending the Amazon and creating a new vision that will allow us to stop deforestation in our country; it is important to show that this is possible, therefore, I am pleased that we can renew this important alliance”, said Susana Muhamad, Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development, at the event which took place at the Colombia stand in Egypt.
The event was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, lvaro Leyva; The UK Secretary of State for Asia, Energy, Climate and Environment, Lord Zac Goldsmith, and the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, James Cleverly, seek to draw a new line of work together taking into account the priorities of the new Government to position the country as a World Living Power.
The strengthening of this alliance began in 2019, which enabled the implementation of highly relevant programs such as Sustainable Forest Area (TEFOS), with a contribution of more than 60 million pounds to Colombia, in three initiatives, such as: 1) multipurpose cadastre in important environmental areas, 2) the fight against environmental crimes linked to deforestation and 3) sustainable economic alternatives and other initiatives harnessed through funds UK Partners to Accelerate Climate Transition (UKPACT)whereby by 2022 an additional 7.8 million pounds is allocated to enabling activities and pilot projects focused on climate action.
In this way, Colombia is consolidating itself as a strategic ally of the UK in the region on priority issues, such as participatory ecological restoration and impact on hydrographic basins, strategic ecosystems of forests, moor, wetlands, mangroves, coral reefs, among others. ; ensure the ecological connectivity, functionality, knowledge generation, governance, social and cultural sense of the ecosystem.
