Google One VPN now available for Mac and Windows

Google has released the One VPN app for Mac and Windows operating systems so that, just like on mobile, the VPN will continue to encrypt and mask user traffic on the Internet for a secure desktop connection.

The desktop service is available in most of Europe, UK, Mexico, Canada and the US, 22 countries in total, as Engadget has advanced and Google has confirmed to Europa Press.

To access this VPN service, you need to subscribe to the Google One 2TB plan, which is available for 9.99 euros per month and can be shared with up to 5 people. VPN for Mac wants to install at least a version of macOS Big Sur and be compatible with x86 and ARM computers, whereas on Windows the minimum required is Windows 10.

As Google claims, VPNs use “advanced and integrated” technology that ensures that no one can link online activity to a user’s identity when activated. Apart from that, it also highlights its high-speed performance, as Google One VPN is powered by Google’s network architecture.

Similar in function to mobile phones, these private networks hide Internet Protocol (IP) addresses that identify devices on the Internet and thus do not track users’ online activities. Instead, IP addresses are assigned to devices based on location to navigate content according to where the user is.

However, it doesn’t allow websites to get location information so they can’t determine which country, zone, or region a user is in. Similarly, it can be configured so that certain apps ignore the VPN and browse as normal with a standard connection.
