MADRID, November 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has summoned the British ambassador in Tehran, Simon Shercliff, this Sunday to protest the “attack” on the Iranian Embassy in London carried out by a “violent group”.
Tehran also protested “anger against the Iranian national flag” during the protests. “The British ambassador has been reminded of the obligations contained in the Vienna Conventions of 1961 and 1963” regarding the protection of embassies, the official IRNA news agency reported.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also strongly protests the fact that Britain did not prevent this grievous attack,” IRNA added.
The British ambassador has regretted the incident and has assured that he will transfer the protests from Iran to his government, according to Iranian news agencies.
British authorities mobilize riot police during Saturday’s demonstration outside the Iranian Embassy. Some activists climbed the facade of the diplomatic headquarters and shouted slogans against the Iranian government and in support of women’s rights.
Iran’s semi-official news agency Mehr has reported that in the last two months the British ambassador has been summoned up to four times by the Iranian government.
