ARIZONA – Three people reportedly fell through the thin ice in a lake in northern Arizona.
The incident occurred Sunday at Lake Woods Canyon which is located about 40 minutes northeast of Payon.
The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call for help around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
At 3:35 p.m., Coconino County Deputy of Forest Lake Substation responded to Woods Canyon Lake to reports of 3 people, two men and one woman walking on the frozen lake and falling through the ice.
Deputies and firefighters were able to pull the woman out of the water and perform life-saving measures, but to no avail. The search continues for 2 male individuals.
The deputies were able to purchase a boat from a boat rental on the lake and carry out an extended search of the area. Additional units responding to the area are the Gila County Sheriff’s Office dive unit with cold water equipment, Department of Public Safety air rescue with cold water divers, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue with boats and cold water search equipment.
Currently, the unit has confirmed one death and is searching for the other two missing persons.
