MADRID, January 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
British intelligence had ruled out on Tuesday that Russian Army troops would be able to lay siege to the town of Bakhmut any time soon despite their advances in the area, especially around the town of Soledar, in eastern Ukraine.
“Despite the complexity of the situation surrounding the Bakhmut area, it is unlikely that the Russians will be able to lay siege to the town any time soon,” the UK Ministry of Defense said in a Twitter message.
As such, he referred to the latest data gathered by British Intelligence and indicated that over the past four days, Russian troops and members of the Wagner Group had been advancing towards Soledar, a town that was practically “in their hands”.
Soledar is located about 10 kilometers north of Bakhmut, which is currently one of the main objectives of the Russian Army. In recent days, the fighting has mainly been at the entrances of several long-distance (200 kilometers) tunnels belonging to the salt mine.
“Despite increasing pressure on Bakhmut, the Russians are unlikely to be able to encircle it in the short term as Ukrainian forces maintain their defensive positions and control supply routes,” the UK government said.
