Britain and Japan agreed to deploy military forces to both countries

MADRID, January 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The UK and Japan have agreed on a defense plan that allows for the deployment of national military forces between the two countries to accelerate security cooperation.

British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, will sign this “historic agreement” this Wednesday with his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida, which is the culmination of years of negotiations, 10 Downing Street reports.

“In the past 12 months, we have written the next chapter in relations between the UK and Japan, accelerating, building and deepening our relationship,” Sunak said, according to a statement from the British Government.

The British ‘Prime Minister’ has added that this agreement is “very important for both countries”, as it “consolidates” their commitments to the Indo-Pacific, underscores joint efforts to strengthen economic security, accelerates defense cooperation, and promotes innovation of new jobs.

“In an increasingly competitive world, it is increasingly important for democratic societies to continue to stand shoulder to shoulder as we navigate the unprecedented global challenges of our time.”

After that, the UK will become the first European country to have a Mutual Access Agreement with Japan, considered the most important agreement on this issue between the two countries in more than a century.

On the other hand, the two leaders will talk about Tokyo’s presidency in the G7, as well as continuing international support for Ukraine, both in terms of military equipment and progress in peace negotiations.
