The Dominican film “Bantú mama” will be released in the UK under the thematic section “Love”, on Saturday 9 October at Curzon Soho, with additional screenings on Sunday 10 October at the Odeon West End in version 65.
“Help mama” is a contemporary story about the different encounters between Africa and the Caribbean.
Emma, an Afro-European woman who managed to escape after being captured in the Dominican Republic, finds refuge in the most dangerous neighborhood of Santo Domingo, where she is taken in by a group of minors. When you become his protégé and mother figure, you will see your destiny change inescapably.
The feature film was co-written and co-produced by director Dominica Iván Herrera with French actress Clarisse Albrecht, who along with young actors Scarlet Reyes, Euris Javiel and Arturo Pérez, also star in the film.
More of a story of four people who find each other despite everything and support each other, French-African Emma and the Dominican children also share their African origins. The director demonstrates the resilience of his characters as well as the dire conditions in which they live, “with poetry and cinematographic grace,” he said.
“Bantú mama” is the first production of Point Barre, a Dominican independent film production house created by Iván Herrera and Clarisse Albrecht.
