MADRID, February 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Yermak, acknowledged that he “does not rule out” that Britain was the country that opened up the supply of fighter aircraft to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Yermak had published a brief statement on Wednesday on his official channel of the Telegram social network in which he acknowledged that the Ukrainian authorities were still “working on” the issue, as “there are still issues that need to be agreed upon.”
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak acknowledged during a recent visit by Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski that the supply of warplanes was not a possibility, though he cautioned that the issue was still on the negotiating table.
In recent days, both former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his successor Liz Truss have urged Downing Street to consider supplying Ukraine with this air capability to defend against Russian strikes, ahead of its first anniversary.
After Germany unblocked the supply of Leopard model battle tanks, Ukrainian authorities have now made fighter jets their top demand within the framework of the Western arms supply that Kiev has been receiving for months.
