– Norway will train Ukrainian specialists in sanitation, sniper and team leader training, says Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp)
Norway has contributed to the training of Ukrainian soldiers through Operation Interflex in Great Britain. These efforts will continue in 2023, and the number of instructors will increase. Norway is also contributing financial and instructor support to an EU training mission, and Norway will help train Ukrainian explosives disposal officers.
The training of Ukrainian specialists will be carried out in Norway. The plan is to start this spring and be implemented in multiple rounds through 2023.
– This training will complement other training initiatives. Our contribution will strengthen the overall training effort and will be welcomed by Ukraine and our allies. We will help rapidly upgrade the capabilities of the Ukrainian army and increase the total number of soldiers that western countries can train, said Gram.
Ukraine will urgently need military support to go ahead and train a significant part of this support.
– Ukraine needs more and better trained soldiers to fight against the Russian invading troops. In addition, they need to improve their competency in several professional areas. It’s important for Norway to take its share and contribute where we can, said Gram.
The government will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary.
– Work is ongoing with more donations and contributions, both directly from Norway and through collaboration with other countries. The government is planning a bigger aid package for Ukraine that will span several years, Gram said.
