This Monday, March 6, 2023, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) inaugurated the “Health Technology Assessment Training Workshop for National Health Systems” in the city of Quito. The space was created to learn about the best experiences in the UK and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE).

The event, which was organized in collaboration with the British Embassy and the University of San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), was an opportunity to discuss the importance of Health Technology Assessments in the efficient allocation of resources and increasing people’s access to technology. care.

Minister of Health José Ruales attended the meeting and emphasized the importance of applying technology in the health sector through robotics, genetics, information technology and other lines that enable the development of vaccines, genetic therapy and other advances. . He also commented on the new structure of the State portfolio.

“As part of the new structure of the Ministry of Public Health, the National Directorate for Health Technology Assessment, has published a social assessment of health status for Ecuador as part of the EuroQol-5D instrument, in addition to 3 methodological manuals on rapid reporting of technology evaluations for medicines, an impact analysis report budget and, economic evaluation of health technology. This manual puts us in line with international standards in health technology evaluation,” he said.

The Rulees emphasize that international collaboration makes it possible to share knowledge, exchange experiences, and improve the quality of evaluations around the world. He stated that joint work contributes to progress towards a more effective and efficient evaluation of health technologies.

The workshop will take place over five days and will address issues related to the Assessment of Sanitary Technologies in Ecuador; processes and methods, as well as the development of technical capacity to conduct and interpret the synthesis of evidence.

Gemma Sykes, Deputy Chief of Mission for the British Embassy, ​​ratified the commitment to deepen ties with Ecuador. “NICE has more than 22 years of medical development and experience in aligning healthcare professionals. We have achieved significant success, which has allowed us to strengthen health technology processes.”

The event was also attended by Diego Quiroga, USFQ Chancellor; Ximena Garzón, Dean of Public Health at USFQ; and Karla Flores, Deputy Minister for Strengthening the National Health System Vice President of the Republic of Ecuador.
