The acting charge d’affaires of the United States embassy in Bolivia, Jarahn Hillsman, yesterday became the first diplomat, not the country’s ambassador, to decided to respond vigorously to former President Evo Morales since 2008, the chairman of MAS, the first president at that time, declared persona non grata and expelled ambassador Philip Goldberg and lowered the level of relations between the two countries.
This Thursday, Hillsman surprised with strong statements and statements, even though he did not mention Morales in his text. “The United States fully respects the sovereignty of nations and their right to develop their natural resources and strongly rejects unfounded claims of intervention”, said the embassy statement.
He is direct and powerful. The US representative’s communique, since 2008, has always been measuring words and calling for “cooperation”.
Previously, the most powerful statement was issued by the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, who from Washington and as the country’s first authority, commented on the resignation of Morales, in 2019.
“The resignation of Bolivian President Evo Morales is a watershed moment for democracy in the western hemisphere. After nearly 14 years and his recent attempt to ignore the Bolivian constitution and the will of the people, Morales’ departure preserves democracy and pave the way for the voice of the Bolivian people to be heard. The United States commends the Bolivian people for demanding freedom, and the Bolivian armed forces for fulfilling their oath to defend not just one person, but the Bolivian constitution.”
Yesterday, the attorneys returned to their usual line in the second paragraph of the statement coming out of the building located on Avenida Arce, in La Paz.
“We reiterate that the government’s foreign policy The United States has a fundamental goal of working with other countries and strengthening international cooperation to address global challenges that affect us all, such as climate change, pandemics, and global economic recovery. And we know that global peace and prosperity depend on a rules-based global order that respects human rights and people’s sovereignty.”
The diplomat acknowledged “that our people can work together to improve the lives of the Bolivian and American people. Our willingness to cooperate remains steadfast”.
Evo Morales, a few days ago, blasted on Twitter that “The US is preparing through the Southern Command implementation of the interventionist plan in Bolivia and sister countries in the region under the pretext of guaranteeing democracy and security. Their real interest is in handing us over politically to steal our natural resources.”
He regretted that the head of command, Laura Richardson, had announced that A “decisive decade” begins for the US to take control of the security of the Southern Hemisphere with the so-called Southern Collaboration Strategy, together with the UK, whose ambassadors pushed for coups in Bolivia, France, Canada and the Netherlands,” Morales said.
He later commented that Richardson “criticizing the rule of what is considered ‘autocratic’ in Latin America, but he attacked free expression media such as RT en Español and Sputnik, which spread information with a different perspective from the hegemony that the US wanted to impose with its pro-imperialist media. This plan will fail again because the free peoples of Latin America will never again be subject to the whims of arms imperialism which destroys world peace by intervention, assassinations, economic blockades and coups,” said Morales.
Yesterday, Morales also criticized the request of the Chilean president, Gabriel Boricfor Bolivia to help direct migrants, especially Colombia and Venezuela, to expel them and not let them enter their territory, and once again attack the US and compare its actions to Washington’s actions on the Mexican border.
