Microsoft’s chances of winning antitrust approval for its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard increased after UK regulators narrowed the scope of their investigation to focus solely on cloud gaming.

Pressure on Microsoft has increased as it struggles on multiple fronts in the United States and Europe to convince supervisors to agree to the deal, the company’s biggest and one of the 30 biggest acquisitions of all time.
The CMA’s initial position was that a merger could result in higher prices, less choice and less innovation for UK players. He suggested a number of solutions, including selling call of duty from Activision or block the deal completely. The agency said it would consider other alternatives that would protect opponents’ access to hit plays.
In its findings Friday, the CMA concluded, after reviewing more data, the sales strategy call of duty “It wouldn’t be profitable at all in any plausible scenario.”
The investigative’s narrower focus echoes similar moves at the European Union level, where the bloc is said to focus solely on cloud gaming services.
“We appreciate CMA’s thorough and comprehensive evidence review and welcome updated interim findings,” said a Microsoft spokesperson.
A spokesperson for Sony, which has publicly opposed a settlement in the CMA investigation, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“Sony’s campaign to protect its dominance by blocking our merger cannot bypass the facts, and Microsoft has come up with an effective and workable solution to address any remaining issues of CMA,” said an Activision spokesperson. “We know this business will benefit competition, innovation and consumers in the UK.”
