The departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union will not affect the commercial relations that El Salvador has with this country, due to the Agreement between Central America and the United Kingdom, which was signed in 2019.
with alliance, El Salvador and the countries of Central America guaranteed the preservation of preferential conditions for trade with England and vice versa.
According to Carolina Palma, Specialist Trade and Customs Attorney at the firm EY Legal, “The Central American government has done an excellent job achieving the legal certainty necessary to guarantee that trade in our region continues without major problems. What the Agreement says is interpreting that term of the Association Agreement“.

On 17 October 2019, the UK and EU announced a new, revised deal, backed by European leaders, paving the way for a regular exit. Two days later, and after losing a vote on the amendment in Parliament, Johnson was forced to ask for a further extension until January 31, 2020.
Finally, on December 20, the House of Commons endorsed the Withdrawal Agreement which was reached by Johnson, with 358 votes in favor and 234 against. On January 23, 2020, Queen Elizabeth II approved the text, thereby completing the entire procedure.

On January 24, Johnson formally signed an agreement that will end nearly five decades of the UK and EU’s shared history.
“The United Kingdom is going through a difficult time in its internal politics, but the ideal is that despite the turbulent panorama, trade can continue to flow around the world. The country made the democratic decision to leave the European Union, but this must not mean damaging commercial or political ties with other regions, rather it strengthens it. Even so, it is important to always know about exit negotiations and what the implications are for the company,” concluded Palma.
