Honda unveiled its first distraction-limiting technology, HUSH, prioritizing driver comfort, this innovative infotainment system blocks out the most irritating sounds at the touch of a button by emitting adjustable, continuous, and progressive audio.

Standard options include white noise, whale songs, and elevator music in jazz or blues. Honda maintained the ‘most man, least machine’ design ethos in developing this technology; the principle that vehicle interior space should be maximized for the driver.

Honda’s Ultra Quiet Sonic Hub, or HUSH, is designed for drivers who crave a bit of peace and quiet on trips with young children, spouses, in-laws and colleagues. The driver can block out passenger noise by selecting the HUSH button in the center console.

The HUSH will be implemented as standard on all new Honda models ordered after April 1, 2023. It can also be installed on all vehicles made after April 2018.

SILENCE features include:

• Detection and redirection of unwanted sounds in the car: recognition of children’s cries as standard
• Option to block noise from the passenger seat, back seat, or both
• Control over the volume of sound that reaches the driver
• Preset recognition for phrases like “did you miss a turn”, “going the other way” and “are we there yet?”
• Personalization options for specific speech recognition, such as spouse, in-laws or children

Honda has developed this new technology to filter out unwanted distractions and help desperate drivers get from point A to point B with minimal stress: no distracting directions or meaningless shouting, just your favorite noise frequency.

Dessie Bell, Honda’s director of sound technology, said: “We surveyed thousands of UK drivers to understand their weakest points while on the road, and it all comes down to distractions in the car. While driving in the back seat is the number one cause of frustration, drivers also have to deal with crying children, dogs barking, coworkers on the phone, and that’s why HUSH was created.

“Honda’s Ultra Quiet Sonic Hub is configured to enhance the driving experience. Whether you’re commuting across country or driving across town, HUSH lets you do it undisturbed in the car.”

This is just the beginning for HUSH, with a limited edition system already in the works for 2024, starting with AI plug-ins to make your passengers sound like their favorite celebrities..
