The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has renewed for another year a national emergency declaration regarding Russia, implemented in April 2021 for Moscow’s “dangerous foreign activities”.
With 90 days left before it expires, the president has asked Congress to extend this act, which is reviewed annually, given the danger the situation in the country poses to the United States.
Specifically, it specifies as malicious “attempts to undermine free, fair and democratic elections and the democratic institutions of the United States and its allies; facilitate and participate in malicious activities in the area of cybersecurity; promote and use transnational corruption to influence foreign governments, commit extraterritorial acts that attack dissidents or journalists, damage national and regional security important to US security, and violate international law, including failing to respect the nation’s territorial integrity.”
“I have decided that the national emergency declared in Executive Order 14024 needs to continue in light of certain malicious foreign activities of the Russian Government,” Biden said in a letter to the Speaker of the US House of Representatives.
