McGrath on WC injury: – Don’t regret it for a second
On Thursday, it became known that Atle Lie McGrath had suffered a stretching injury to his left knee and thus eliminated the remainder of the Alpine World Championship.
The injury occurred as McGrath was eliminated in super-G Thursday.
– I realized as soon as I woke up after hitting the net that WC was over. I have a lot of self-awareness. After I fell, the most important thing was to get off as quickly as possible, get good hands and get comfortable, because I felt like it was starting to hurt, McGrath told NRK.
This year’s WC was McGrath’s first, after he had to overcome a knee injury two years ago.
That experience, says McGrath, was very helpful.
– It has a lot more to say than I thought. The calm that I have inside of me right now and knowing that it’s going to be okay and knowing that I’m going to come out stronger no matter how I do this, it gives me a really good feeling, he said, and added:
– No matter what, I’m very willing to do the job. As weird as it sounds, this is extreme motivation to come back and wreak havoc on the World Cup as soon as possible.
WC ended with a combined fifth place in super and a run in super-G for McGrath, while he will be unable to run his best exercises, the slalom and giant slalom, next week due to injury.
– I don’t regret it for a second and it’s part of the sport. And so it happened, said McGrath, saying he was willing to take the risks necessary to medal in super-G.
