Berit Kjøll wants a new term as sports president – Dagsavisen

This was conveyed by the Norwegian Sports Confederation in a press release.

– I am very motivated to continue the work of reversing the decline and ensuring a good framework for Norwegian sport after the pandemic. The last few years have been demanding for Norwegian sport, but we have stood together, achieved good results and followed up on the ambitions adopted at the sports council in 2019, both sporting and political, says sports president Berit Kjøll.

Berit Kjøll was elected president of sport after Tom Tvedt in 2019.

Much of his time as supreme leader in Norwegian sport has been marked by emergencies. Nearly a year after he was elected, the pandemic hit. This year, he has worked to mitigate the consequences of higher electricity prices, which are affecting a number of sports teams, with the authorities demanding a better support scheme.

He placed particular emphasis on team spirit and the close contact and solid cooperation he had with shopkeepers and employees in specialized associations, sports circles, sports boards and sports teams as crucial to his decision to run for re-election to the Sports Council in 2023.

– We have many important games ahead of us but we are a strong team and I have told the selection committee that I want to continue as team manager to ensure continuity and continue the good work we have done together in a very special period, said Kjøll .

Cooperation

He believes that collaboration and continuity are important to solve the challenges facing sport in both the short and long term.

– The energy crisis threatens to intensify an already serious situation in sport, but unfortunately everything indicates that the pressure on our state of affairs will be even more demanding in the future. Both the majority of people and countries have had to tighten up on finances at the same time we are struggling with dropouts, greater inequalities related to whether people can afford to participate and perks stack up. These are things that I am passionate about and want to contribute to ensuring continuity in teamwork that must be accomplished, says Kjøll

He previously held management positions at companies such as Huawei, Telenor and Tusenfryd.

The Sports Council will be held in Bergen in early June 2023.
