MADRID, May 22. (EUROPEAN PRESS) –

The British Intelligence Service indicated on Monday that Russian authorities would work to create a “new elite aviation group” to conduct air operations in the framework of the invasion of Ukraine.

“Russia is most likely creating a new elite attack aviation group called ‘Shtorm’ to operate in Ukraine,” they said, before mentioning that “the unit may consist of at least a squadron of Su-24 Fencer and Su-24 Fullback bombers and a squadron of helicopters. attack”.

As such, they stated that “the mix of aircraft types indicates that the group will have a primary role in ground attack missions,” according to a statement published by the UK Ministry of Defence via its official Twitter account.

“Credible reports in the Russian media indicate that the Russian Ministry of Defense is trying to attract highly skilled and motivated pilots by offering generous financial incentives and opening up recruitment for retired pilots,” they explained.

Finally, they emphasized that “the creation of this group underscores that Russia considers its regular squadrons in the Air Force to be below those required in its primary function to carry out bombing raids against Ukrainian lines.”
