Toyota, despite facing great competition this year, started the season with three wins out of three possible. This has made some brands unhappy with the inter-vehicle performance tuning called BoP. Porsche, without going any further, expressed its disapproval of the difference between LMH and LMDh.
But we arrive at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and, while it doesn’t look like there will be any major adjustments in BoP, Toyota is weighed down – pun intended – in terms of performance with an entry load of 37 kg. And this, obviously, is frowned upon within the Japanese brand.
“It’s a tough question. The BoP has to synchronize the rules of the American and European systems. I think there’s a little room for interpretation of what the Le Mans event really is. There’s a difference between the American style and the inside style.” in terms of racing and sport”, commented Alex Wurz in a press conference at Le Mans, which was attended by SoyMotor.com.
“Are we happy now? No, because – the BoP – came at the last minute and we were shocked at the way it was announced and the timing, which is contrary to what we initially believed.”
“But I hope we can learn and find ways not to be political, but always based on science and sports.. As a global community, fans of resistance, we must have a fair system. Before the announcement we were more than happy, we believed that it was not done through scientific logic, which was originally anticipated in the rules,” he added.
Even though he had experienced a ‘setback’, namely occupying the third and fifth starting positions in yesterday’s race, Wurz asked his team to focus on maximizing the package this weekend.
“The mentality of everyone in the team is to focus on what we have and we have to optimize it. That is a better mentality than proving that we have something else, because if we can’t do that it would be counterproductive. We try to optimize every human and engineering aspects,” he added.
Moreover, he had explained that “Weight is of course the biggest enemy“, especially in medium-high speed corners, because the car, with more weight, “does not do what you want and does not enter –into the corner– the way you want it to”. Says the ‘pilot’ like Alex Wurz .
