Electric scooters are increasingly being seen on the streets, although they are not the only ones whose presence has increased significantly as battery-powered bicycles have also grown in popularity. The owner of one of them was involved in an unpleasant incident which fortunately did not go any further and his two-wheeled vehicle suffered faults that occasionally occur in electrical products: fire.
Fire as the protagonist
Some lithium ion batteries have been affected by this thermal runaway phenomenon, overheating due to overload, which may cause unwanted explosion to anyone. In the video that accompanies these lines, we can see how the scene we refer to, an episode that took place recently in Great Britain, happened. The image is most striking because, when no one expected it, the fireworks become the main protagonists.
Early on in the document we see the owner approaching the area where the battery is plugged in, then backing away moments before an explosion occurs. The room quickly filled with smoke and sparks as the calls began to escalate.. The West Midlands Fire Department was tasked with putting out this particular fire, a task that took about 30 minutes, according to BBC. The department provides a number of helpful tips for electric bike owners, including a warning never leave your item charging after the battery reaches 100%.
That, of course, counts not leaving charging items behind when we leave the house or even when we sleep. Manufacturers often include similar warnings as well as additional instructions for products such as electric bicycles. This recommendation should be taken seriously because these types of episodes occur more often than we think, causing very tense situations that can end very badly.
