Volkswagen ID. Buzz Glamper Van brings back the hippie spirit

VW ID. Buzz is closer to his hippie past than any of the German brand’s other recent vans. But ID.Buzz still manages to cement that identity with some psychedelic graphics, even if some of the vintage touches were lost on the way from concept to production vehicle.

A new unique custom van nicknamed Glamper Van, by ID. Buzz Cargo aims to bring back the 60’s vibe for a British music festival. Scheduled to debut at PennFest 2023 in Buckinghamshire this weekend, the Glamper Van will feature an interior-mounted photo booth, complete with accessories and interior lighting.

“Following the success of last year’s Pamper Van, Volkswagen is delighted to once again help festival-goers celebrate in style with the new Glamper Van,” said Laura Bignall, performance and brand marketing manager, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

The Glamper Van’s interior décor feels less psychedelic despite featuring faux bushes and colorful sofas, somewhat lowering expectations that might have been realized based on the van’s exterior.. You could say it’s probably more disco funk than Yellow Submarine.

But we can already feel the demand for ’60s kits on the ID. Buzz, including hubcap-style wheels and vintage faded colors, items VW hasn’t mentioned regarding ID. Buzzing so far. This Glamper Van factory wheel choice is perhaps an early sign of VW’s concern with serving the past too much, in a way analogous to the VW Beetle 20 years ago which also tried to walk a fine line between retro looks and modern appeal.
