– It’s a fairly small sport here in Norway, but very big in England, Australia, France and a number of other countries, says Ingrid Sæther Houge (28) and continues:

– This is a sport where things can get a little rough, and the only protection you have is a mouth guard.

The sport Ingrid Sæther Houge (28) has been involved in for nine years is rugby.

– It’s very important for us to deal with it, said the 28-year-old.

As a rule, it is common in sports to start at a young age. This is not very common when it comes to rugby in Norway.

– It’s a typical sport you start when you’re older, it’s rare to see kids play it. This may change over time, said Houge, who will soon become a full-time GP in Trondheim.

Random choice

For the girl from Nesodden, it was a random choice when rugby became her next big passion.

– I’ve ridden horses in the past, but when I started learning, I wanted to try something new. Then it’s going to be something I feel like a part of me, said the 28-year-old.

It all started with him walking around NTNU.

– Then I went around the stands at NTNU and listened to various sports. Rugby sounded really exciting and then I gave it a try, and I don’t regret it.

There’s no doubt that it was all accidental.

– So it’s a bit of a coincidence that I ended up here. But it’s fun, you can be a little brutal and do what you normally couldn’t.

Recommend people to try

– What would you like to say to those who want to try?

– It’s a lot of fun and I recommend trying it. There are a number of clubs in Eastern Norway. This is definitely something to try. There are several teams in Ås and Oslo, among others.

Houge emphasizes that this is a sport that is constantly evolving.

– You experienced great things together and became great friends. There’s no doubt about it, and it’s a sport that’s evolving as it becomes more and more popular as time goes on, said the 28-year-old and added:

– Also, some people from other countries come to Norway and do other things, but also play rugby, and that’s good for the environment. This is very interesting.

Social

There’s no doubt that Houge appreciates a sport that takes up so much of his time.

– There is also great respect between each other, both within the team and between other countries and teams – besides, it is very social.

The team he played for really valued the social aspect.

– The teams I played for were mostly student teams, and there were some who moved in and those who just came in. So there’s going to be a bit of going in and out of the team, and then it’s important that we make it fun and social.

Representing Norway

Ingrid Sæther Houge currently plays for NTNUI in Trondheim. In addition, he represents Norway. He really appreciates it.
