MADRID, September 15 (EUROPA PRESS) –
British, French and German authorities announced on Thursday that they refused to lift sanctions on Iran that expire next month, under the 2015 nuclear deal.
“In direct response to Iran’s serious and ongoing failure to comply with its Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) commitments, the Governments of France, Germany and the UK intend to maintain measures regarding nuclear proliferation against Iran, as well as weapons. and a missile embargo,” read the joint statement.
The three countries, stressing that this decision “fully complies” with the agreement, lamented that Tehran has repeatedly refused to return to the JCPOA and “continues to expand its program beyond its limits” without “credible civil justification” for reaching an agreement. Enriched uranium reserves exceed 18 times the permitted amount.
Likewise, they have indicated that their commitment “to find a diplomatic solution remains” and have assured that this decision “is not equivalent to imposing additional sanctions or activating rollback mechanisms.”
The Iranian government agreed in 2015 to halt its nuclear program, but the United States’ unilateral withdrawal from the signed pact led to numerous non-compliance with obligations. The European countries that signed the treaty have tried in vain to reinstate the treaty.
